Working for the Lamb

One of the things I love doing at Lambda is interacting with our distributors and you, our clients! It’s a fun process to work with our distributors to get all the parts we need for each install. Each one of them is helpful and kind and it’s great to work together to bring you the equipment you need. Sometimes this means lots of emails, phone calls or filing forms, but when the parts start to arrive and pile up in the shop, I know something exciting is in the works!
Not only do I get to order a lot of neat products for you, but I get to see some of the equipment in the shop when it is tested. It’s fun to see the dreams and hopes of each client slowly become reality and the finished results of each project!

Did you know that Danley provides custom paint jobs for their speakers? You simply select the Sherwin Williams paint color you want to match your room and we can put together a custom order for you! This little speaker is one we just placed a custom order on:
The SBH-20LF is Danley's answer for those who are looking for a high performance in an ultra-compact column shaped cabinet. The SBH patent technologies are completely different from any of the multi-come products on the market in that it is actually a large horn. This yields superior performance with unparalleled pattern control, no complicated processing for superior performance.
We can't wait to see the custom color, install these great speakers and hear how they sound! Pictures to come!

Case Study~New Life LED Walls

Picture
The past few weeks Lambda has been working at New Life Church along with PixelproLED to install LED walls in three different locations throughout the church. This last week was the install in the World Prayers Center. This building space is a big multipurpose room. One end of the room is lined with large windows letting in lots of light. As you can imagine, with all the light coming in the windows there was a lot of washout on their screen and projection system. It was made up for by a powerful projector, but there were still problems.

What is SMAART?

Hey everyone! Trevor here. I wanted to take the time to highlight one of the services we offer: that is venue specific frequency analysis and correction. Ok, ok. That’s was just the fancy way to say room tuning! But while that was a fancy way to say that, it is a very accurate description of what we do when we come “SMAART” your room!

This is a topic that I am super passionate about, so I’ll try not to get too nerdy about it and just explain the basics to you! Using pink noise, (wait, you don’t know what pink noise is?? Click here to find out!), the SMAART software, and a reference mic, we are able capture data about the PA and what the room dynamic is doing to effect different frequencies of sound.
Now, stay with me as this is where the tricky part happens. See, getting that data is easy, the hard part is taking the data and being able to decipher what it means. After understanding what it means, we then take the correct steps to “tune” the room! This is where I get to work my magic!
Picture
In addition to completing the full SMAART course through Rational Acoustics, I have spent many hours analyzing data from different rooms and learning the best way to take that data and apply it to real world applications. But the best part is that, even though I have tuned many rooms, it is always a learning process!
But here’s my favorite part about the whole process! When we are done tuning the room, I get the chance to educate you about what your room is going to sound like! We had a perfect example of this not too long ago. We were in a venue that had a large back curved drywall wall and brick side walls. This, along with where the speakers were mounted, created some frequencies that were just impossible to tune-out of a mix.

Picture
We were able to give this information to their tech team and with that knowledge and training, the Font Of House engineer was able to craft a mix that avoided some of those offending frequencies caused by the design of the building.
This is why I get super excited and nerdy about this topic! You see, for many years I was a volunteer FOH engineer for my church. And even just having that bit of information could have helped me so much in how I created my mix! I love being able to give knowledge to the people running the consoles in those rooms and helping them to create and craft the best mix they can.
