A microphone’s polar pattern is the 3-dimensional space surrounding the capsule where it is most sensitive to sound. There are quite a few different patterns but here are 3 of the most popular.

Something you shouldn't live without!
If you have ever stepped up to a sound board you’ve probably seen a few knobs labeled HPF and LPF. What do those mean?
HPF and LPF stand for High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter. Some boards have just a HPF, while some boards, especially digital, give you both. A HPF allows high frequencies to pass through, meaning it will filter out low frequencies. Some consoles have a HPF button that has a set cut at 120 or 150hz. A HPF can really help clean up vocals or instrumentation that doesn’t have a lower frequency. A LPF does the exact opposite. It allows lows frequencies to pass through and filters out high frequencies. This is a great tool for instruments like a bass guitar or a kick drum to clean give a clean low end to your mix! It's a simple tool anyone can use! Try it out and see the difference it can make in some of your mixes! The HEIL PR 22 microphone is a dynamic cardioid microphone that offers greater articulation throughout its entire frequency range and has low handling noise. Noise directed at the rear of the mic is virtually eliminated through a combination of special porting & phasing plug design. This mic is a sound professional’s dream, come true.
Best-in-class rear noise rejection means that you’ll get more sound out of the PR 22 before feedback occurs. The PR 22 microphone has exceptional mids and highs. This mic is a stage-friendly mic that can take a full-on snare hit & deliver the richest sounding snare with no overload The PR 22 is able to deliver rich vocals, warm & accurate guitar, crisp snare drums with depth, clear piano and more to the board like never before. Whether you’re recording with the PR 22 in the studio, or using it for live production, your ears will tell you it was a good choice. We love using this wireless mic with clients. It’s easy to use and produces the quality sound you need. Equipping You To Be the Best!Have you ever wondered how some of those special features work on your AV equipment? When it comes to racks of equipment with lots of wiring, we think it’s a great idea to have as many reminders as possible of where those wires should be connected. As an example, in the picture above you can see labels on every connection and you can also see colored bands of heat shrink arranged in a rainbow pattern.
Heat shrink is simply rubber tubing that shrinks with heat from an inexpensive handheld heat gun. It’s an easy, quick way to remind you at a glance of wire order based on our visible spectrum of color order red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet or ROYGBIV. You can modify these layouts to fit your rack needs. Some cables have large connectors and very small cable, which can be difficult to work with for heat shrink. There is an answer to this as well as most heat shrink comes in several different ratios for shrinking. In this picture we used 3:1 heat shrink so it shrinks to 1/3 of its original size. We like to precut our heat shrink and keep it in an organized bin for easy access. Try it out and let us know how it works for you! Do you use heatshrink to organize other things? Let us know.
