Lighting Maintenance

If you’ve worked with Lambda, you know we are big fans of taking care of your equipment so it will last longer and serve you well while you have it. We’ve put together several resources for you about maintenance (Click here for free Resources), so what could be better than to continue with Lighting Maintenance? This time, we brought in a good friend, a lighting expert, to help us put together this information. John Tabor put together a list of things he sees as important to maintaining your lighting equipment. Tabor owns Zebra Productions Live and with over a decade of lighting experience he has worked on projects as big as the world’s largest aquarium, a Superbowl halftime show and the Grammy’s. John now puts on many Christian conferences across the nation and supplies us with much of our LED lighting fixtures. Ryan has worked alongside John Tabor to produce shows across the country for many years now, so it seemed only natural that when we wanted lighting tips, we would ask John.

“Each lighting system should be serviced every 3-6 months. This timing can depend on if you are using haze, how much is being used and what type it is. I like to look at this as the same as I would an oil change: Your lights will run if you don’t do maintenance, but you will be shortening their life by not taking care of them. It’s up to you.
Here is a standard maintenance checklist I go through after every rental I do. Again, how often you do this is based on your circumstances. So, when you are first starting out, you may need to check on your equipment often to see if it needs maintenance more than once a year.
It’s important to be checking these items not only so your equipment can last longer, but also for safety reasons. If you have any questions on the above, please ask! And keep an eye out for the continued checklist next week which includes caring for your lighting console.
