The G.O.A.T
An Efficient Mobile System
By: Ryan

At Lambda AV much of our experience from building systems comes from our owner Ryan Durbin operating in the live production world. We still do some live production as well as build live production systems so, this week we wanted to feature some of our most recent work in this area.
"This idea was a joint solution with Greg at Any Screen INC. We wanted to solve a problem we saw happening at smaller shows. We noticed the bigger shows always got the nice racked up clean systems, but the smaller ones ended up with a bunch of gear on a table…. and so the G.O.A.T. was born.
Greg and I both took slightly different approaches on it to meet our individual needs and goals, but are for the most part similarly based around a Black Magic TV Studio HD Switcher, a Black Magic web presenter and a small rack that fits inside of a small injection molded “pelican” type case.

I used a rack from OCD labs called the lite-fly ocdlaboratories.com/litefly-1 . I chose this one because it had a solid wood rack with textured black paint, and includes important features like cutouts to save weight, rear rails for lacing bars, and side vents to help with ventilation from a bunch of equipment crammed into the tiny space. The whole rack fits into a custom “pelican” type case and can roll away and be checked as luggage on a plane. We chose the Black Magic TV studio HD switcher because, well, we love it. It has front panel control of the whole switcher, lots of main outputs, an auxiliary output, and it's small. We added a Black Magic web presenter to create an easy way to record, and stream to a computer using the popular open broadcaster software.
The system also includes a few computers for showing Graphics, controlling the switcher, and recording using OBS. We are mac people through and through but these little computers are hard to beat. They are called NUC’s or Next Unit of Computing. These are an affordable powerful little computer. Just add some RAM, an SSD, and a copy of windows and you are off and running. They have no bloatware since you are putting a fresh version of windows on them and they can be extremely fast. The size is awesome as well as we can easily include two in our setup without using much space. We added a 4 way Black Magic multi-viewer to connect a single 4k monitor. This allows us to show full RES screens of both of the computers, and the Multi-view for the ATEM switcher all together and not have multiple monitors.
We also included several different converters such as the Terranex AV, and several of the new Atomos HDMI to SDI connect convert scale converter for converting more computer sources for use in the switcher.
We used the new G.O.A.T which we named “Billy” on a recent show in Hawaii and it worked great! It traveled with no issues and performed its job well. We even added a “Tile” to the case so we could check via smartphone to see during layovers that our gear had made it on the plane. “Billy” is now available as a demo if you would like to see how switching, streaming, or recording might work in your venue. Just call and ask, or drop us a line anytime!" -Ryan Durbin
Yes! Lambda travels the country to put systems in for you! No matter where you are or what your situation, we have a solution for you. We love to travel and we always have fun seeing where you are at! We'll go to Hawaii again any time :)

I’d have to check with you here. Which is not something I usually do! I enjoy reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
