If you’re watching a stream there are a few frustrating things that can happen: the video can freeze or skip, the quality could be bad, or the sound could be difficult to understand or hear. Here we wanted to offer a few tips to help with your stream audio. Sometimes problems are unavoidable depending on the situation of the end user, but here are a few things you can do to make sure you are producing a good audio mix.
Mix to Headphones - Mix to headphones. This will help cut out any disruptive noise and make sure you are accurately hearing every detail. Then check it on bad speakers and bad headphones. What does that mean? Most people who are watching a live stream aren’t listening to it on a high dollar, custom tuned sound system. Most people are listening on their phone or laptop or on a pair of headphones. So, create your mix to sound good on that! If you’re doing a live stream, be sure to do a test first so you know what will sound good on those phone speakers. Check out these sleek transmitter/receivers from Hollyland! The Mars 400S transmitter/receiver system features a 400 foot line-of-sight transmission range. Each have an SDI and HDMI connections expanding your compatibility options. Additionally, an optional second receiver can be linked up to the transmitter to accept the signal at the same time. The transmitter is also capable of sending the signal over built-in Wi-Fi to up to four mobile devices, whether it is also sending to a receiver at the same time or not. This allows different people or departments on your site to view the image being captured. The image is sent to the HollyView app, which is compatible with iOS and Android.
What does it matter? I can do it myself...There are some who feel like they do not need a professional integration company or an Audio Visual design engineer when they change the AV system in their business. Perhaps they have a background in operating tech or maybe they are quick learners and feel confident they can easily plug new equipment in and start using it for a new project. Where there is a possibility you could get away with this once, chances are things won’t go according to plan. We’d like to take a minute to tell you why you need to consider having a professional Audio Visual Integration company for your next system install. One.
Incorporating Dugan’s proprietary voice-activated process, the Waves Dugan Automixer plugin automatically controls the gains of multiple microphones in real time, dramatically reducing feedback, studio noise and comb filtering from adjacent microphones. It maintains a consistent system gain, even when multiple speakers are talking simultaneously, and makes perfectly matched crossfades, without any signal compression, and without a noise gate that may cause unwanted sonic artifacts. Available for virtually any console, the Dugan Automixer is the ultimate solution for broadcast news panels, talk shows, houses of worship, film and television dialog recording, and any other discussion panel or conference scenario involving multiple microphones and participants.
It's New and Fancy, but is it Right For You?Last week we looked at knowing when it’s time to replace your equipment or if you could “hold it together” with a repair or a patched in new part. This week we wanted to take a different look at updating equipment. How do you know when you should update your equipment with the latest and greatest?
Deciding When Your Old System Needs Something NewIf your main Audio Visual system has been installed for a while you might be starting to wonder if it’s time to upgrade your system or start from scratch. We all try to save money if we can and Audio Visual is certainly an area we want to save money in. Sometimes a simple update in a piece of equipment is all you might need. Other times it might save you money over time to create a whole new system. How do you know when you can no longer upgrade? When is it time to tear out your legacy system and start over from scratch? With older systems there are several options you might take: wait it out, simply maintain, or eliminate completely. Each has its pros and cons. Let’s walk you through each one. If you wait as long as you possibly can to upgrade, it may save you money now but will probably cost you in the future. Many times, these systems are relied on a weekly, if not a daily basis. By waiting until pieces of your system fail, you put yourself in a position where you must make a quick, pressured decision to get the system back up and running. And sometimes you must settle for a piece of equipment that you might not like as much because the one that you want isn’t available that quickly. Or you might have to spend extra money to rent equipment until your new equipment can be ordered and installed.
One of the biggest things we like to push at Lambda Audio Visual is using your equipment to its fullest. Almost every piece of equipment we work with and sell is positioned not only fill your needs but to grow with you. Our tech tip this week is non-other than the equipment user Manual!
We affectionately speak of this amazing tool on our crews as our most important and knowledgeable crew member ‘El Manuel’ (of course we say it with an accent). “Have you checked with Manuel”, is a common day to day saying for us. This is because while our training's do a great job of getting teams started and helping to solve problems, it’s only when you dig in to what the manufacturer has designed the equipment for that you can fully understand it. One of the things we get asked about a lot is how to get a Pro Presenter to output 2 different things at the same time. We love Pro Presenter, but the simple answer is…it can’t…unless you get tricky. This is where the multi display controllers enter the scene! These devices have been used for years to display content across projector blends or multiple screens. The most common devices used were the triple ead 2 Go and the more robust Datapath 4. There was a trend, especially in church worship spaces, around 5-7 years ago to display ultra-wide content and use multiple projectors to display on a single very wide screen or 3 screens to fill up blank wall and create a more engaging stage. This trend has mostly disappeared, but the idea behind it, we can repurpose!
